Nicholas Monardes (1493-1588) was a a Spanish physician and botanist who wrote an influential book on the wonders of the "New World." His work was then translated into Latin, then into English by John Frampton. The English translation is known as Joyfull Newes Out of the Newe Founde Worlde.
